Cape Town – On Sunday, 29 October 2023, officers from the Maitland Flying Squad acted on information about a vehicle that had been hijacked in Gugulethu.
According to South Africa Police Service, the officers located the vehicle in Khayelitsha. Attempts were made to intercept the vehicle, leading to a high-speed chase after the driver refused to stop. A shootout between the police and suspects ensued, resulting in two suspects, aged 24 and 28, being wounded. Officers found a firearm and ammunition in the vehicle.
The suspects are facing multiple charges, including possession of a hijacked vehicle, possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition, attempted murder, and robbery. They are scheduled to appear in the Khayelitsha Magistrates’ Court in the near future.
