Two Jordanians Released After Two-Week Captivity in Syria


Amman, Jordan—Two Jordanian nationals, previously kidnapped in Syria, have been safely released after more than two weeks of captivity, announced Jordan’s Foreign Ministry on Saturday. The successful resolution of this case marks a significant diplomatic engagement between Jordan and Syria.



According to Namibia Press Agency, the Foreign Ministry’s statement detailed that Syrian authorities played a crucial role in securing and facilitating the transfer of the two individuals back to Jordan, where they were reported to be in good health. Sufian Qudah, a spokesperson for the ministry, extended gratitude towards Syria for its cooperation in resolving the situation and ensuring the safe return of the captives through official channels.



Qudah further explained that the Jordanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, particularly its Directorate of Operations and Consular Affairs and the Jordanian Embassy in Damascus, maintained constant communication with Syrian authorities from the moment the kidnapping was reported. However, the ministry has not disclosed specific details regarding the circumstances of the kidnapping or the identities of the individuals involved.



The incident comes amidst a gradual thaw in relations between Jordan and Syria, following years of tension sparked by the Syrian civil war. This event underscores the improving diplomatic ties and collaborative efforts between the two nations.
