Two Culpable Homicide Cases Recorded in Zambezi

Zambezi: The Namibian Police Force (NamPol) in the Zambezi Region is investigating two separate cases of culpable homicide, one of which includes charges of negligent driving while under the influence of alcohol on a public road and without a valid driver’s licence.

According to Namibia Press Agency, NamPol’s serious incident report issued on Sunday states that the first incident occurred on Saturday morning in the Masambo area of Bwabwata National Park along the Trans-Caprivi Highway. It is alleged that the driver of a Nissan Note veered into the lane of oncoming traffic, resulting in a collision with another vehicle. A passenger, identified as Johannes Botha, died in the collision, while other occupants in both vehicles sustained injuries. His next of kin have been informed.

In a separate incident also on Saturday morning, another case of culpable homicide was registered at Lyamukulo village in the Kongola area, along the same highway. It is alleged that a 59-year-old male driver struck a pedestrian, identified as George Ilarigin, who died at the scene.

The report further alleges that the deceased ran into the middle of the road carrying a big stone in his hands, and when he was hit, the stone went through the windscreen and injured a passenger inside the vehicle. It was reported that the deceased was a mentally challenged person. His next of kin have been informed of his death.

A separate case of reckless and negligent driving was reported on Friday in Katima Mulilo’s New Cowboy location, along the Chefuzwe gravel road, where a pedestrian was allegedly struck by a vehicle whose driver fled the scene. The number plate of the suspected vehicle was found at the accident scene. The victim was transported by ambulance to the Katima State Hospital for treatment, the report states.
