Two Boys Arrested for Assaulting and Raping Man in Oshikoto Region

OSHAKATI — The Namibian Police Force (NamPol) in the Oshikoto Region has arrested two boys, aged 19 and 14, on charges of rape and robbery following an attack on a 52-year-old man in Oneputa village. The incident, which involved physical assault and sexual violence, occurred on the evening of August 6, 2024.

According to Namibia Press Agency, the region's crime investigations coordinator, the assault happened around 9:00 PM in the Oniipa Constituency. The victim, who sustained injuries to his hand, face, and back, was reportedly walking home from a local shop when he was followed and attacked by the two suspects, who had also been present at the shop.

The suspects reportedly assaulted the man, demanding money and attacking him with kicks and strikes using a mopane stick. After the man handed over all the money he had, amounting to N.dollars 70, the assault escalated to a sexual attack. "While the victim was lying on the ground helplessly due to the assault, the suspects removed his belt by cutting it off with a knife, undressed him, and had non-consensual anal sexual intercourse with him," explained Ekandjo.

Evidence including the victim's shoes, trousers, pieces of his belt, and a used condom were recovered at the scene and have been collected for forensic analysis. The suspects were apprehended shortly after the incident, with the 14-year-old minor set to be released into the care of his guardians pending further proceedings.

Both suspects are scheduled to appear at the Ondangwa Magistrate's Court on Monday as the investigation continues.
