Tuy: The People of P¨ Celebrate May 15th with Cultural Fervor

Tuy: The people of the former village of P¨ celebrated, on Thursday, May 15, 2025, the second edition of the Day of Customs and Traditions in Bons¨, a village in the commune of Koumbia in the province of Tuy. On May 15th, the people of the former village of P¨, namely Kamba, Lopohin, Pohin, Man, and Bons¨, gathered in Bons¨. These communities honored their ancestors with ritual sacrifices and customary ceremonies, strengthening the ancestral and cultural ties that unite them.



According to Burkina Information Agency, the festivities showcased Bwa culture, which was expressed through symbols of local identity such as the Y©ny© women’s dance, Bons¨ leaf masks, P¨-Kamba leaf masks, and Honboba fiber masks from Pohin. The presence of the village’s daughters and sons who came for the occasion, as well as leaders of other religious denominations, added further splendor to the ceremony.



Bons¨ land chief Gnado Kambi maintained that sacrifices were made to invoke and thank the spirits of the ancestors. He expressed his gratitude to the authorities for establishing this day and wished Captain Ibrahim Traor© and the government every success in their missions. The president of the Association for the Development of the Integrated Zone of P¨ (ADZIP), Sori Ahmed Ouattara, emphasized that any development that is not based on culture is doomed to failure. He was therefore pleased to have supported the customary leaders in organizing this commemoration. For him, this day, in addition to magnifying customs and traditions, helps strengthen social cohesion. The president of the special communal delegation of Koumbia, Boukari Zono, for his part, urged communities to promote peace and cohesion. He maintained that this day is an opportunity for the younger generations to rejuvenate with their elders to understand our customs and traditions and learn our traditional values.
