Turkana: Residents of Turkana South Sub-County have urged the County Government to prioritize investments in water, health, Early Childhood Development Education (ECDE), and road infrastructure during the 2026/2027 financial year. Speaking in Lokichar during a public participation forum on the proposed FY 2026/27 budget, Mary Lomojo, a resident, highlighted the urgent need for intervention in the water sector. She noted that many women, particularly expectant and breastfeeding mothers, face significant challenges accessing this essential commodity.
According to Kenya News Agency, another resident, Nelson Ekaran, emphasized the necessity to expand dispensaries, construct additional ECDE centers, and improve road networks. He also stressed the importance of fast-tracking projects to ensure they are completed within the stipulated timelines. Other stakeholders, including representatives from Friends of Lake Turkana and Pamoja Trust, also participated in the discussions, expressing similar concerns and suggestions.
The countywide forum is part of the County Government's budget-making process and is being spearheaded by the Department of Economic Planning. The public participation forum on the proposed FY 2026/27 budget, amounting to Sh16,586,167,301, is crucial for gathering input from various stakeholders. The County Government has outlined equitable share from the national government, own-source revenue, and conditional grants as the main sources of funding for the budget.
