Turkana County Enhances Disability Inclusion in Entrepreneurship through Collaboration

Lodwar, Turkana County, is witnessing a significant collaboration aimed at improving the socio-economic status of People with Disabilities (PWDs) engaged in micro-entrepreneurship. The ‘In-Business Project’, a joint effort by Humanity and Inclusion (HI) Kenya and the Turkana County Government, is focused on empowering PWDs in Kakuma Refugee Camp, Kalobeyei Settlement, and the Host Community in Kakuma, Turkana West sub-county.

The County Solicitor Ruth Emanikor highlighted the significance of inclusive practices in line with Sustainable Development Goal No.17, emphasizing the importance of disability inclusion as a means to break barriers and promote affirmative action. The Deputy Director for Social Protection Hebrews Idoka identified various challenges faced by PWD entrepreneurs, including stigma, discrimination, and infrastructural barriers, underlining the need for concerted efforts to ensure successful economic inclusion.
