TUNIS—In a reaffirmation of support for United Nations-led initiatives in Libya, Tunisian Minister of Foreign Affairs Mohamed Ali Nafti emphasized his country’s commitment to aiding peace and reconciliation efforts.
According to Namibia Press Agency, Minister Nafti declared Tunisia’s readiness to back dialogue and reconciliation during a meeting with Stephanie Koury, Deputy Special Representative for Political Affairs for Libya under the United Nations Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL). The discussions underscored Tunisia’s ongoing role in fostering a stable political resolution in Libya.
Stephanie Koury acknowledged Tunisia’s significant contributions and ongoing support to the UN's mediation efforts in Libya, expressing gratitude for Tunisia’s cooperation and the facilitation provided to UNSMIL’s operations. Libya remains politically fragmented following the 2011 ousting of Muammar Gaddafi, with power split between the UN-recognized government in Tripoli and a rival authority in Benghazi.
