Tsumeb Municipality Orders Street Vendors to Leave Construction Zone

Tsumeb: Street vending activities along the Kuvukiland main road between Kuvukiland Block A and Block B in Tsumeb will be suspended for five days to allow for ongoing water infrastructure construction works.

According To Namibia Press Agency, the temporary suspension will be in effect from Monday, 06 July until Friday, 10 July 2026, as per a notice provided by the Tsumeb Municipality. The municipality's acting Chief Executive Officer, Frans Enkali, stated that all vendors operating within the affected area are required to cease trading and remove their tables, stalls, goods, and temporary shade structures before construction activities commence on Monday.

Enkali emphasized, "All affected vendors are hereby instructed that from Monday, 06 July 2026 to Friday, 10 July 2026, street vending activities within the construction area are not permitted." He further stated that vendors must ensure the area is completely cleared before construction begins.

The municipality stressed that all works will proceed as scheduled and that it is essential for the area to be fully cleared to ensure safe and unhindered access for construction activities. Enkali highlighted that the temporary suspension is necessary as the continued presence of vendors within the construction zone poses a safety risk.

"For this reason, strict adherence to this notice is required in the interest of public safety and the successful execution of the project," Enkali noted. The municipality urged all affected vendors to comply fully with the directive and vacate the area before work starts on Monday.

This temporary measure is part of ongoing efforts to improve water infrastructure in the area while ensuring the safety of residents, vendors, and construction workers throughout the project period.
