WINDHOEK — The reigning champions of the Namibia Rugby Premier League, Trustco United, are at risk of missing the playoffs following a narrow 18-15 defeat to their arch-rivals, FNB Wanderers, this past Saturday. This loss in Round 13 complicates their path to securing a spot in the postseason.
According to Namibia Press Agency, the closely contested game took place at Wanderers Sports Field in Pioneers Park, with both teams performing intensely before an enthusiastic crowd. Wanderers secured their victory through two tries by left-wing Jurgen Meyer and eight-man Driaan Vorster, complemented by flyhalf Geraldo Beukes, who added a conversion, a penalty, and a drop goal. Conversely, United’s points came from two tries by right-wing Edgar Beuthin and centre JD Nel, with additional kicks from scrumhalf Jahno du Plessis and flyhalf Hanreco van Zyl.
The loss leaves United in a precarious position in the league standings, now sitting fifth with 32 points, one point behind fourth-placed FNB Grootfontein. With only three games left in the season, United must now win and hope for favorable outcomes in other matches to climb back into playoff contention. The top of the table is currently led by UNAM with 61 points, followed closely by Wanderers with 57 points. The competitive season continues as teams vie for the top four positions that will lead to the playoffs, deciding this year’s championship.
