Trump Criticizes US Sanctions, Says They Are Undermining the Dollar’s Global Status

New York: Former US President and Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump warned that the US government’s sanctions against other countries, including Russia, are weakening the dollar’s role as an international currency. Trump made these remarks during a speech at the Economic Club of New York, where he expressed concern over the impact of restrictive measures on the dollar’s global standing.

According to Burkina Information Agency, while he imposed sanctions during his presidency, he lifted them quickly to avoid harming the dollar. “I imposed sanctions, but I lifted them very quickly because ultimately they kill the dollar and everything it stands for. We need the dollar to remain a global currency. If we lose the dollar as a global currency, it will be a lost war,” Trump said. He further criticized the current administration for what he called an overuse of sanctions, which he claims has prompted other countries, such as Russia, to develop their own systems and reduce reliance on the US.
