Ankara: Turkish authorities have detained 92 suspected members of the Islamic State (IS) group in the past week, Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya announced on Monday. The operation, named "Gurz-47," was conducted across 16 provinces, including Ankara and Istanbul.
According to Namibia Press Agency, Minister Yerlikaya shared the details of the operation on the social media platform X, highlighting that the suspects were involved in IS activities. The authorities described these activities as "responsible," indicating a significant level of involvement within the organization.
During the raids, security forces confiscated unlicensed weapons, organizational documents, and digital materials. These materials are expected to provide further insights into the operations and plans of the detained suspects.
Trkiye designated IS as a terrorist organization in 2013. The country has been a target of numerous deadly attacks attributed to IS, prompting a series of counter-terrorism operations both domestically and internationally. The recent detentions underscore Trkiye's ongoing efforts to combat IS and dismantle its networks within the country.
