Ouagadougou - The Ministry of Transport in Burkina Faso has announced the initiation of investigations into a road accident that took place on January 20 in PS, on the Ouaga-Bobo axis, resulting in nine fatalities and 17 injuries.
According to the Burkina Information Agency, the ministry confirmed that inquiries are being conducted into the crash, with results expected from ongoing court investigations. Anûuyirtole Roland Somda, the Minister of Transport, Urban Mobility, and Road Safety, emphasized the importance of adherence to the highway code and exercising caution in both urban and rural areas. He specifically urged public passenger transport companies to comply with legal requirements to install speed limiters on all their vehicles.
Minister Somda extended his sincere condolences to the families of those who lost their lives and wished a swift recovery to the injured. The accident, involving a violent collision between two passenger transport vehicles at the western exit of PS, resulted in nine deaths and 17 injuries, including eight classified as serious. This information was provided by security sources.
The crash occurred on the country's major interurban road, which connects Burkina Faso's two main cities, Ouagadougou and Bobo Dioulasso. This road is notorious for frequent fatal accidents and its inadequacy in handling the volume of traffic. The expansion of this accident-prone axis is part of the broader Ouaga-Yamoussoukro highway project, which has been significantly delayed due to the ongoing terrorist crisis in Burkina Faso.
