Trans Nzoia – In an effort to improve transportation and accessibility within Trans Nzoia County, a rigorous road maintenance initiative is underway, marking a significant step towards infrastructure enhancement. The County Executive Committee Member for Roads, Mr. Jackson Amboka, confirmed the project’s progress during a recent inspection tour, emphasizing the county’s commitment to timely and quality roadwork.

According to Kenya News Agency, the project’s priority is to deliver enduring value to the taxpayers, underscoring the importance of completing the works promptly and to the highest standards. His message was reinforced by Engineer Rachel Wangoi, who accompanied him during the inspection. Eng. Wangoi highlighted the critical role of using standard, high-quality materials in road construction and maintenance to ensure longevity and durability of the infrastructure.

The county government has allocated Sh90 million towards this endeavor, aiming to refurbish and maintain approximately 800 kilometers of road across all 25 wards within Trans Nzoia. This substantial investment demonstrates the county’s proactive approach to improving its road network, which is vital for economic activities and everyday mobility of its residents.

The maintenance operation, which commenced a month ago, is set to significantly enhance road conditions, facilitating smoother and more reliable transportation for the county’s populace and contributing positively to the region’s overall development and accessibility.

VIHIGA – In a move poised to significantly improve maternal and child healthcare, the Vihiga county government has announced plans to collaborate with telecommunications giant Safaricom. This partnership aims to establish a pioneering maternal and child health care center in the region, a development that underscores the county’s commitment to enhancing healthcare services.

According to Kenya News Agency, the initiative is set to bolster the existing Boresha Afya ya Mama na Mtoto program, which has already made strides in reducing maternal and child mortality rates in Vihiga over the past five years. The envisioned center will be equipped with comprehensive facilities and skilled personnel to deliver efficient and effective healthcare services to mothers and children.

Henry Kilonzo, Senior Manager of Safaricom Foundation’s programs, affirmed the company’s commitment to this collaborative venture. He highlighted that Safaricom has previously established similar partnerships in Kilifi and Mombasa counties, demonstrating a proven track record of supporting health sector improvements in collaboration with local governments. Kilonzo emphasized Safaricom’s readiness to replicate this success in Vihiga, underscoring the company’s dedication to contributing to quality healthcare service provision across Kenya.
