Luena: At least five people were seriously injured on Tuesday in an accident between a maintenance train of the Benguela Railway (CFB) and a bus carrying university lecturers in Luena, Moxico province.
According to Angola Press News Agency, the accident involved four university lecturers of Cuban nationality and a national, who was the bus driver. The collision occurred at a railway crossing on the outskirts of Luena, allegedly due to the recklessness of the bus driver.
The injured individuals were swiftly taken to the Moxico General Hospital. The hospital’s clinical director, Georgina Muhongo, reported that two of the patients were admitted with fractures in their upper and lower limbs, while the driver sustained a minor head injury. The patients are currently receiving treatment under “reserved clinical conditions.”
This incident marks the first occurrence this year of an accident involving a train and a car in the area.
