Tragic Workplace Shooting at Henning Crusher Leaves One Dead, One Critically Injured

ONDANGWA—A shooting at Henning Crusher in Ondangwa on Friday resulted in the death of one manager and left another in critical condition, following a dispute involving a recently dismissed employee.

According to Namibia Press Agency, the victims were identified by Oshana Regional Commander Commissioner Naftal Lungameni Sakaria as John Myburgh, 43, who died at the scene, and Johana Richter, 44, who is currently in critical condition in the intensive care unit at Ondangwa Private Hospital. Both men were Production and Mechanical Managers at the company.

The incident unfolded when a 59-year-old colleague, who had been transferred to Ondangwa in 2020 following misconduct at another branch, was dismissed on Friday for continued issues. Commissioner Sakaria explained that the suspect was called into the office to sign his dismissal papers but left the premises abruptly. He returned shortly afterward with a firearm and shot both victims.

After the shooting, the suspect reportedly took Myburgh’s bicycle and rode to the Ondangwa Police Station, where he reported the incident and surrendered himself to the authorities. The police confiscated an empty magazine and a pistol from the suspect, who is now detained and expected to appear in the Ondangwa Magistrate's Court on Monday.

This tragic event has sparked an ongoing police investigation into the circumstances surrounding the shooting.
