Tragic Helicopter Accident Claims Life of Teacher in Masalani, Garissa County

MASALANI, Kenya – A devastating helicopter accident in Masalani, Ijara, Garissa County, resulted in the death of a deputy head teacher from Masalani primary school. The teacher was fatally struck by the helicopter’s blades during an attempted take-off.

According to Kenya News Agency, the incident occurred while the late teacher, identified as Mr. Ahmed Noor Ismail, was overseeing the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) exams. Mr. Ismail was involved in the transport of examination papers to Masalani Secondary School when he was tragically hit by the propellers of the helicopter, which lost control during take-off.

Odowa confirmed that Mr. Ismail suffered fatal injuries and died at the scene. The body was subsequently moved to Masalani Hospital. The incident has plunged Masalani town into mourning, with local imams offering prayers for Mr. Ismail’s family and his soul. Described as a devoted Muslim, his death has deeply affected the community.

This accident comes in the wake of two other helicopter incidents in neighboring Wajir County, related to relief operations amidst the ongoing rains and floods. The adverse weather conditions have rendered many roads in the region impassable, complicating transportation and relief efforts.
