Baz¨ga: In collaboration with the health districts of Kombissiri and Sapon©, the Wend Bonsgo Association of Traditional Health Practitioners of Baz¨ga is organizing the Baz¨ga Provincial Traditional Health Practitioner Week from April 22 to 29, 2025, in Kombissiri. The week will feature conferences, exhibitions, and stand events under the theme: "Traditional medicine and modern medicine: A single medicine at the service of the population."
According to Burkina Information Agency, Ablass© Tapsoba, president of the Wend Bonsgo association, emphasized that this week exemplifies the dedication of both traditional health practitioners and health professionals in Baz¨ga to create an inclusive health system. This system aims to merge traditional and modern medicine effectively for the benefit of the province's residents. Mr. Tapsoba expressed his appreciation to the province's administrative, customary, and health authorities and partners for their support, urging for more backing for traditional medicine, which plays a crucial role in public health.
Wossol¨me Clarisse Denni, Secretary General, representing the High Commissioner of Baz¨ga Province at the opening ceremony, highlighted the significance of traditional medicine in Burkinabe culture. She stressed that traditional medicine is not only a cultural legacy but also a vital supplement to modern healthcare, particularly in treating various ailments. Ms. Denni urged traditional practitioners without official authorization to regularize their status by contacting the appropriate services in Kombissiri and Sapon©.
She also committed to advocating for the establishment of a medicinal plant grove to address the issue of disappearing therapeutic plant species. The representative of the president of the special delegation of the commune of Kombissiri, Hamado Nacoulma, along with Dr. Luc Minoungou, chief physician of the Kombissiri health district, and Issaka Eric Tapsoba, Deputy to the Transitional Legislative Assembly (ALT), praised the initiative. They acknowledged the critical role traditional practitioners play in healthcare delivery in Baz¨ga, particularly in managing various health conditions.
The opening ceremony featured the symbolic ribbon-cutting at the exhibition and animation stands and included discussions on traditional medicine. The event was attended by numerous traditional practitioners and invited health professionals.
