Traditional Chiefs of Ganzourgou Donate Motorcycles and Food to Support VDP and IDPs in Zorgho

Zorgho: Traditional chiefs from Zorgho, Bougr©, and Bangbili have united to provide significant support to the Volunteers for the Defense of the Homeland (VDP) and Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) in Zorgho. The initiative culminated in a ceremony chaired by the High Commissioner of Ganzourgou Province, Aminata Sorgho/Gouba, where eight motorcycles and over five tons of food were handed over to aid the defense and vulnerable populations.

According to Burkina Information Agency, the donation event held on Saturday, April 12, 2025, was a response to the President of Faso's call for support in fostering peace and aiding vulnerable communities. The traditional leaders, Naba Sanem of Zorgho, Naba Yemd© of Bougr©, and Naba Boulga of Bangbili, spearheaded a fundraising and food collection drive within their communities. Their efforts resulted in the collection of 7,331,780 FCFA, 47 bags of 50kg cereals, and two bags of second-hand clothing.

The funds raised were utilized to purchase motorcycles and fuel for the VDP, along with three tons of rice to supplement the collected food provisions for IDPs and vulnerable locals. The official presentation of these donations was met with applause from a grateful audience in Zorgho.

Valentin Badolo, President of the special communal delegation of Zorgho, highlighted the significance of this donation as a symbol of community unity around the defense forces and those affected by insecurity. He expressed gratitude to the traditional chiefs and all contributors who made the donations possible.

Naba Sanem, Chief of Zorgho, acknowledged the collective effort behind the initiative, emphasizing the importance of unity in building peace. He expressed his joy over the communal participation and commended the security and administrative authorities for their support.

A VDP representative conveyed their appreciation and commitment to the cause, assuring that they remain dedicated to regaining territorial integrity. He also thanked the Citizen Watch movement for enhancing their headquarters with electrification and toilets.

On behalf of the IDPs, beneficiary Lankoand© Larba Augu expressed heartfelt gratitude for the received aid, praying for blessings upon the donors and support for defense forces to enable displaced individuals to return home.

High Commissioner Aminata Sorgho/Gouba, representing the governor of the Central Plateau region, stressed the symbolic and operational value of the donations. She noted that the equipment would bolster the fighting forces, while the food supplies would alleviate the suffering of the most vulnerable. She praised the gesture as patriotic and urged the community to emulate the traditional leaders in addressing the security and humanitarian challenges.
