Traders at Olmekenyu Trading Center Counting Losses After Fire Outbreak

Narok South: Traders at Olmekenyu trading center in Narok South Sub County are counting losses after their shops were reduced to ashes by a fierce fire that broke out last night.

According to Kenya News Agency, Narok County Police commander Riko Ngare confirmed that 30 structures, primarily made of timber and iron sheets, were completely destroyed by the fire that started at 3.40 am. The structures served as shops on the front side and dwelling houses on the rear side, resulting in the destruction of property of unknown value.

The Kenya Red Cross Society officials and fire brigade officers from Narok County, along with local residents, managed to extinguish the fire at around 7.30 am. The County police boss confirmed that the exact cause of the fire has not yet been established, but there were no reported fatalities or injuries.

‘A multi-agency team of Kenya Police Service, red cross, and fire brigade officials are still on the ground to assess the situation,’ Ngare added.

This incident follows another fi
re that occurred a few days ago at Aitong trading center in Narok West Sub County, which also resulted in the loss of property of unknown value. Meanwhile, Kenya Forest Service Rangers and Kenya Wildlife Service personnel are battling a fire in the Maasai Mau Forest that has consumed over 1,000 acres of forest land, as confirmed by Narok County Ecosystem Conservator Daniel Mkung’.
