Tourism and Integrity: OIC States Called Upon to Strengthen International Cooperation

Male: The First International Forum for the Promotion of Integrity in the Tourism Sector concluded Wednesday in Male, Maldives, with the adoption of a series of recommendations aimed at strengthening international cooperation in the fight against corruption. Organized by Saudi Arabia in partnership with the Maldives and in collaboration with the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), the forum brought together more than 190 participants from over 50 countries.



According to Burkina Information Agency, participants welcomed the adoption of the High-Level Principles on Promoting Integrity in Tourism and called for their international dissemination. They further emphasized the importance of the Makkah Convention and urged OIC member states to expedite its ratification. The forum recommended the creation of a best practices guide and the strengthening of cooperation networks such as the GlobE network, managed by UNODC and INTERPOL.



They called on the GlobE network to strengthen its efforts to combat corruption in the tourism sector by collecting and sharing best practices and proposing concrete and applicable solutions to existing challenges. Participants expressed their gratitude to the Saudi Arabian (Nazaha) and Maldivian anti-corruption authorities for their role in organizing the forum. The event is part of the implementation of the resolutions adopted at the 50th session of the OIC Council of Foreign Ministers.
