Tougan: The Tougan municipal police conducted a public awareness session on Thursday to highlight the importance of wearing helmets while driving, as part of the celebrations for the 30th anniversary of the Burkina Faso Municipal Police. The session was carried out on the main roads of the city, where officers reiterated the basic road safety rule of wearing a helmet.
According to Burkina Information Agency, the initiative was led by Dani Bernard Yabo, the deputy commander of the Tougan Municipal Police, and was one of the commemorative activities scheduled for the anniversary. He emphasized the significance of the initiative, stating, "This activity is part of the 30th anniversary celebrations of the Municipal Police of Burkina Faso. We went out to raise awareness among our brothers and sisters about traffic rules, particularly the wearing of helmets."
Yabo further stressed the life-saving benefits of wearing helmets, noting, "Wearing a helmet protects a life, it saves a life. We will continue raising awareness until the public fully understands the benefits of wearing a helmet before moving to the next stage."
The campaign received positive feedback from local road users, who committed to further disseminating the message. Issa Zone, a road user in Tougan, remarked, "It's a very good initiative. Many people don't realize it's for their own safety. We, in turn, will raise awareness to promote a better understanding of the importance of wearing a helmet."
In addition to the helmet awareness session, the 30th anniversary celebration includes various activities such as public health awareness campaigns, promotion of respect for the Highway Code, and a dedicated radio program. The Tougan Municipal Police, established in 2007, has been serving the community in Sourou for eighteen years.
