Top Score Oshiwana 7-A-Side Tournament Kicks Off in Oshakati


OSHAKATI—The seventh edition of the Top Score Oshiwana 7-A-Side tournament was inaugurated in Oshakati on Tuesday, with competition slated to run from August 8-11, 2024, at Embadu Stadium in the Uukwangula settlement. The event has drawn significant participation with 89 teams from northern Namibia competing in football, netball, and volleyball.



According to Namibia Press Agency, the company has allocated N.dollars 150,000 to support the organization of this year’s tournament. “Our goal with Oshiwana is to unite the community, not only through a shared pap meal at home, but also through the sports we love,” Talaya stated. He emphasized the pivotal role of players and officials, whose dedication and sportsmanship drive the success of the event.



The tournament features considerable prizes across all categories. In football, the top team will receive N.dollars 10,000, a floating trophy, and gold medals. The second-place team will earn N.dollars 8,000 and silver medals, and the third-place team will take home N.dollars 5,000. In netball and volleyball, the winning teams will secure N.dollars 7,000 and gold medals, with subsequent prizes for runner-ups.



The event began with a tribute to Fillemon ‘Kaskas’ Angula, a revered local football legend who recently passed away. A moment of silence was observed, honoring his memory and contributions to the sport.
