Top KCSE Scorers Target Prestigious Engineering, Health Courses

Nyamira County: Top-scoring students from Nyaikuro Secondary School in Nyamira County in the 2024 Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) examination results are eyeing to pursue coveted courses in engineering and health sciences. Clifford Ogato and Mary Onkundi, both of whom scored A (minus), hope to be enrolled in Mechanical Engineering and Bachelor of Science in Nursing, respectively.

According to Kenya News Agency, the students expressed their gratitude to God for their remarkable performance and showed optimism about enrolling in their dream careers once the Kenya Universities Central Placement Service (KUCCPS) portal opens this year. Mary Onkundi shared her appreciation for the school administration, which supported her despite her vulnerable economic background by ensuring she was not sent home for school fees. She also praised her teachers for working closely with her and other candidates to achieve impressive performances.

Clifford Ogato highlighted the role of their Principal, Job Rasugu, in enhancing student performance by introducing a study system where boys and girls study separately. This approach helped students concentrate on their studies, leading to improved results.

Nyaikuro High School Principal, Mr. Rasugu, attributed the improved performance by the 232 candidates in the 2024 exams to the hard work of both teachers and students and the availability of a conducive learning and teaching environment. He expressed excitement over the school's progress and optimism for continued improvement in future national exams. The school registered 232 candidates in 2024, with 223 candidates achieving a C (plus) and above, qualifying them for direct entry to public universities.
