Top Athletes to Participate in AK Track and Field Weekend Meet

Kapsabet: Preparations for the 3rd Betika/Athletics Kenya Track and Field Weekend Meet are complete, according to organiser officials. The event set to take place on the 14th and 15th of March at the Eliud Kipchoge Sports Complex in Kapsabet Town is expected to attract local, national and even international athletes.

According to Kenya News Agency, the Chairperson of Athletics Kenya Central Rift Valley, Abraham Mutai, engaged reporters after assessing the preparations at Eliud Kipchoge Sports Complex. He urged athletes to take advantage of the free registration and attend in large numbers. Mutai highlighted the collaborative efforts with sponsors to ensure the event’s success and praised the facilities at the stadium for providing a suitable environment for the track and field events.

The competition director, Kennedy Tanui, explained that the forthcoming event is the last of the Road to Tokyo series before athletes begin their final preparations. He emphasized the importance of this event as the concluding phase of the murram preparation tracks, urging athletes with potential to qualify for world athletic events to participate and assess their readiness.

Tanui revealed that the event will kick off with the 10,000-metre women’s race, followed by the 400-meter hurdles and 100-metre sprints. Over the course of the two-day competition, athletes will partake in eleven track events.

Nandi County Chief Executive Committee Member for Sports, Youth Affairs and Art, Rose Angira, confirmed the county’s readiness to host the event. She assured athletes of adequate preparations, including accommodation facilities at the Complex, and encouraged Nandi residents to come out in support of the athletes.
