Title Fight Far From Over as Oshikoto League Reaches Thrilling Moment

Windhoek: Just three points currently separate the top three teams in the NamPort Oshikoto Regional Second Division Football League as the race for the title continues, with the top three teams all vying for success. Some teams are set to conclude their campaign this weekend while others have to wait for next weekend to see who will reign supreme and claim the title. However, for Nine Eleven who sit at the top of the standing with 45 points after 21 games, they will know their fate on Sunday when they face Ondangwa United at the Andimba Toivo ya Toivo stadium in a must-win encounter to strengthen their lead at the top.

According to Namibia Press Agency, if Nine Eleven win their last game of the season, they will increase their points to 48, and a win for Omuthiya United, who are behind them, will not affect their position as Omuthiya will finish the season with 46 points. Omuthiya on the other hand need three points when they meet Mama Love on Sunday at the same stadium and hope Nine Eleven lose.

However, should both Nine Eleven and Omuthiya United win, both teams will still be at risk of losing the title to Gerros Uri-Khob Academy, who have three games in hand. Gerros Uri-Khob are third on the standing with 42 points and have only lost one game, while also having the best defensive record with only 13 goals conceded. The football academy will face mid-table Benfica at the Oscar Norich stadium in Tsumeb on Sunday as they seek to close the gap on the teams above.

The 2024/2025 season appears to be going through the most thrilling title chase while Newcastle FC's fate has already been sealed after the Tsumeb outfit was relegated last weekend. Newcastle still have to honour their remaining matches against Young Rangers on Sunday at Tsumeb with the last two games scheduled for next weekend.

Relegation woes continue for Safile United who are on 17 points in 11th position. They have to collect maximum points when they take on Onathinge United on Saturday at King Nehale stadium at Ondangwa, including a must-win encounter against Fontein City to move out of the relegation zone. Meanwhile, Young Rangers, Mama Love, Young United, and Onathinge FC all remain at the risk of being relegated with the weekend encounters crucial for their survival.
