Titao Receives Essential Supplies After Three-Month Shortage

Titao – On Friday, June 7, 2024, the town of Titao received a much-needed supply of basic necessities, ending a three-month period of shortages. The convoy, comprising vehicles, tricycles, and motorcycles, arrived at approximately 2 pm to the enthusiastic cheers of residents.

According to Burkina Information Agency, the situation in Titao had become critical in recent weeks, particularly with the cessation of operations at the Veneem Electric Cooperative, plunging the area into darkness due to a fuel shortage. The lack of fuel had led to the closure of many drinking establishments and restaurants, and residents had resorted to manually packing water in plastic bags to cope with the absence of ice water and packaged water sachets. One resident mentioned the extent of the disruptions, noting the necessity of walking for shopping due to the unavailability of fuel.

The convoy’s arrival brought relief and a return to normalcy for the town. The market square quickly filled with people eager to purchase supplies. While there was a collective sense of relief with the availability of essentials, another issue emerged as a resident pointed out the scarcity of money in the town, complicating the ability to purchase these newly arrived goods.

Throughout the night, transporters worked to unload and reload goods, with market garden products being prepared for transport to Ouahigouya and Ouagadougou. The convoy departed the next morning, leaving a rejuvenated community behind.

The city has faced significant security challenges since 2021, but with the support of the armed forces and the recent establishment of the Rapid Intervention Brigade (BIR) 21, ongoing efforts to stabilize the region have been met with local support and appreciation.
