BAM — In a substantial community effort, over 1,000 trees were planted in Tikaré on Saturday to combat deforestation and enhance the local environment, as directed by national leaders and supported by local partnerships.
According to Burkina Information Agency, the prefect and president of the special delegation of the commune of Tikaré, the planting initiative followed directives from the Prime Minister during Arbor Day in Bobo-Dioulasso, urging all Burkinabè to plant trees. The reforestation campaign aimed to restore vegetation stripped away by artisanal mining activities. Nikiéma announced that a total of 1,250 trees were planted, with a thousand of those provided by a partner and 250 mango trees raised by community efforts.
The event saw wide participation from local leaders and residents. Naaba Tigré, the head of the canton of Zitenga, also participated and later emphasized the importance of maintaining the newly planted trees. The special delegation organized the distribution of the plants across villages and neighborhoods, ensuring widespread involvement in both planting and ongoing care.
