Tigist Assefa Secures Silver in Women’s Marathon at Paris Olympics

Paris — Ethiopia’s Tigist Assefa clinched the silver medal in the women’s marathon at the Paris Olympics today, finishing strong in a competitive race that saw Sifan Hassan of the Netherlands take gold and Kenya’s Hellen Obiri earning the bronze.

According to Ethiopian News Agency, Assefa’s performance marked a significant achievement for Ethiopia, closely following the country’s first gold medal at this year’s Games, which was won by Tamirat Tola in the men’s marathon just yesterday. Assefa’s silver adds to Ethiopia’s growing tally of medals in long-distance running, underscoring the nation’s prominence in the sport.

The race highlighted a fierce competition among some of the world’s best marathon runners, with Hassan ultimately securing the top spot. Assefa’s strong finish in the women’s marathon bolsters Ethiopia’s reputation as a powerhouse in distance running, following a historic performance by Tola.
