TIÉBÉLÉ — The royal court of Tiébélé was registered as a UNESCO World Heritage site last month, sparking celebrations and official visits to the historic site. On Wednesday, August 7, 2024, Governor Massadalo Yvette Nacoulma/Sanou, accompanied by key aides, was welcomed with traditional music and expressions of joy from the local community, marking the occasion of this significant recognition.
According to Burkina Information Agency, a notable of the royal court, the reception with men's drums and the "Linlêê" call of the women reflected the communal pride and joy in Tiébélé. The celebration followed the official listing of the site on July 26, 2024, in New Delhi, India. Anéyan conveyed the community's gratitude towards the government and the Ministry of Culture for their efforts in securing the UNESCO status, which has uplifted the spirits of the local population amidst challenging security and humanitarian conditions.
The visit served as an opportunity for Governor Nacoulma/Sanou to acknowledge the dedication and support of all stakeholders involved in the nomination process. "Tiébélé is happy, in our turn, we say a big thank you to the government through the ministry of culture and all those who worked for the registration of our royal court, 'Daaléé'," said Anéyan, emphasizing the commitment of the community to maintain the values that warranted the UNESCO designation.
Governor Nacoulma/Sanou also met with members of the local court management committee, established in 2023 and led by the prefect of Tiébélé. She discussed the importance of continuing efforts to promote and preserve the integrity of the site, ensuring it remains an attractive destination for visitors. "This will allow visitors to the court to want to come and come back," she stated, highlighting the ongoing initiatives to enhance the site's appeal and cultural significance.
