Tiébélé Hosts Training on Solar System Maintenance to Boost Rural Renewable Energy

Tiébélé – From May 21 to 24, 2024, a specialized training session on the maintenance and management of photovoltaic solar systems is being held in Tiébélé, Nahouri Province, targeting participants from the Center-South and Center-East regions of Burkina Faso.

According to Burkina Information Agency, the LOGMe project manager at the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN), the training aims to develop a skilled workforce capable of effectively managing and maintaining solar installations in rural areas.

The session has drawn 14 participants from various municipalities within the Center-South and Center-East regions, including Bittou, Zabré, Zoaga, Gogo, Gon-Boussougou, Ziou, and Tiébélé. These regions are part of the IUCN’s “Lands of Opportunity in the Sahel” (LOGMe) project, which has facilitated the creation of climate-smart villages equipped with various solar-powered installations. The training, led by Aboubakar Minougou, covers photovoltaic technology, installation techniques, and the planning of maintenance schedules. It includes both classroom instruction and field trips for hands-on practice in system maintenance.

Participants will also receive essential maintenance equipment to support their work in their respective communities, ensuring the longevity and effectiveness of solar infrastructures. The initiative is part of a broader effort to enhance energy security and create economic opportunities in the Sahel region, supported by funding from the Italian Ministry of Environment and Energy Security through the Global Mechanism of the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD).
