Ouagadougou: Students from the Tiebele municipal high school crowned best mural decorators Kassena the Dizedani Association of Tiebele organized the 11th edition of the "Dora" competition (Kassena mural decoration) from March 18 to 21, 2026, in the royal courtyard of Tiebele. For this edition, students from the Tiebele municipal high school were crowned the best decorators. The ceremony was presided over by Aime Y. Gue, President of the Special Delegation (PDS) of the Tiebele municipality.
According to Burkina Information Agency, the royal court of Tiebele, in the Nahouri province, resonated with the rhythm of the 11th annual "Dora" competition (Kassena wall decoration). Organized by the Dizedani association, this edition brought together approximately 120 young girls from 12 schools in the commune. For three days, under the watchful eye of specialists, the students shaped, smoothed, and painted the walls of the Royal Court, restoring its legendary splendor.
For the association's president, Casimir Abatidan Nassara, the stakes go beyond mere competition. "Our goal is not simply to select winners, but to ensure that the values of our society are passed on to the younger generation by preserving and restoring the royal court of Tiebele, a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 2024," he said.
According to the jury president, Nawe Alfred Koussouba, all the girls did excellent work. It was the smallest details that separated them. He encouraged the students to continue their professional development, stating that preserving Kassena culture was essential. He then declared the Tiebele Municipal High School the winner of the competition, followed by the Tiebele Departmental High School.
The representative of the winners, Anezoura Fid¨le, stated, "This award represents our identity. We thank our mothers who guided us and the organizers for this opportunity." The President of the Special Delegation (PDS) of the Tiebele municipality, Aime Y. Gue, congratulated the association on this excellent initiative before urging the young women to become true community ambassadors of this unique skill.
The patron of this year's event, Assetou Ouattara, director of the P´ prison, expressed her hope that these young women would embrace this art of decoration and share it within the community. The 11 other participating schools were also recognized. It should be noted that the Zecco departmental high school was the guest of honor at this year's event. The association received support from its partner, the CUOMO Foundation, for the activities of this eleventh edition.
