Luanda: Three nationals were arrested last weekend by the National Police in the municipality of Tomboco, Zaire province, for allegedly aiding illegal immigration. The police action took place as the suspects were reportedly assisting three illegal immigrants from the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) in their attempt to reach Luanda, the country’s capital.
According to Angola Press News Agency, the police spokesman, Superintendent Lus Bernardo, revealed that the arrests occurred inside a guesthouse in the village of Tomboco, where the suspects were allegedly preparing for the journey to Luanda. The immigrants, who were accompanied by two children, had traveled from the municipality of Soyo and were transported by motorbike to the guesthouse.
Superintendent Lus Bernardo also noted that the guesthouse manager is currently detained for allegedly harboring immigrants in an irregular migratory situation. The authorities are continuing their investigation into the incident as they work to address the issue of illegal immigration in the region.
