Kossi: Thirty young people from the commune of Nouna trained in improved local poultry farming for better economic prospects. The commune of Nouna, in collaboration with the provincial directorate of Youth, vocational training, and employment of Kossi, conducted a training program from November 4 to 6, 2024, focusing on enhanced local poultry farming techniques for thirty young participants.
According to Burkina Information Agency, the 2020 General Population and Housing Census, commissioned by the National Institute of Statistics and Development, reveals that Burkina Faso’s working population primarily consists of individuals under the age of 35. Unfortunately, this demographic faces significant challenges related to unemployment and poverty, often due to a lack of professional skills. Addressing this issue, the municipality of Nouna aimed to equip thirty young individuals with professional skills in breeding improved local chicken breeds during the three-day training.
The training program emphasized parti
cipatory learning through modules and direct discussions, covering essential livestock farming practices, necessary infrastructure, and equipment for achieving economic and financial sustainability in poultry farming. According to the trainer and director in charge of the Youth of Kossi, Doubassin Dembelé, enhancing local chicken breeds also involves improved feeding practices to boost reproduction rates.
In a module focused on chicken hygiene and health, Ousseni Paceré highlighted vital practices and conditions for successful poultry farming. Safiatou Diarra, a participant, expressed appreciation for the training, stating, “This training will allow us to improve our practice and also increase our household income.”
Souleymane Tiono, the president of the special delegation of the commune of Nouna, commended the participants for their dedication and emphasized the business opportunities that could lead to substantial community development.
