Ouagadougou: New Doctor of Medicine Yissob Dabire defended his thesis on Thursday in Ouagadougou. The thesis, entitled "Evaluation of Person-Centered Care for Diabetic Patients Followed in Third-Level Referral Hospitals in Burkina Faso," emphasized the importance of making patients central to their own care in order to improve treatment outcomes.
According to Burkina Information Agency, Dr. Dabire explained that he chose to apply the person-centered care approach to the specific case of diabetes, with the aim of evaluating its impact on improving medical follow-up. This approach places the patient at the heart of the therapeutic process by taking into account their preferences and values, and by equipping them with the skills necessary for self-management of their condition.
The candidate emphasized that diabetes is a chronic condition that progresses throughout life, hence the importance of empowering patients to actively participate in their own care. He added that this approach can be applied to other areas of medicine.
Her study was conducted from June 20 to August 20, 2025, in three leading hospitals in the capital: the Yalgado Ouedraogo, Bogodogo, and Tengandogo University Hospitals. It was based on data collection from patients followed by in-depth analysis.
The jury judged the document to be compliant and awarded it the highest distinction with congratulations.
His thesis supervisor, Professor Nobila Valentin Yameogo, praised the quality of the work carried out by his student, believing that the subject makes a useful contribution to improving the management of diabetes in Burkina Faso.
