Theater Troupe Promotes Social Cohesion in Samorougouan Through Conference

K©n©dougou/Samorougouan: The Songni theater troupe of Samorougouan organized a conference on Wednesday, June 4, 2025, focusing on social cohesion and conflict management among rural stakeholders, particularly addressing issues between farmers and between farmers and pastoralists. This event was presided over by the President of the special delegation of Samorougouan, Kongna Zoumana Traor©.

According to Burkina Information Agency, the conference was supported financially by the NGO Action Against Hunger (ACF) and centered on the theme: “Social cohesion and conflicts between farmers and farmers and between farmers and herders.” Drissa Traor©, president of the Songni theater troupe, mentioned that the conference is part of a larger mass awareness campaign project aimed at increasing community resilience against conflicts.

Mr. Traor© outlined the objectives of the activity, highlighting the importance of raising awareness and strengthening community capacities on social cohesion. He emphasized the need to educate communities about the principles of social cohesion and the negative impacts of conflicts.

Kongna Zoumana Traor©, the President of the special delegation of Samorougouan, acknowledged the timely nature of the conference, especially as the agricultural campaign begins and land conflicts tend to rise. He noted that the Samand©ni dam has exacerbated agricultural sector conflicts in some of the commune’s 16 villages.

Traor© stressed the necessity of communicating with all stakeholders to minimize conflicts and promote social cohesion. His presentation delved into the causes, consequences, and community impact of conflicts, as well as potential solutions.

Participants gained a better understanding of conflict-related disadvantages and learned about behaviors that can facilitate social cohesion. The event was well-received, with hopes for future activities.

Dj©n©ba Ou©draogo/Pouss© from the NGO Action Against Hunger (ACF) praised the strong stakeholder mobilization and the successful conduct of the conference, which aligned with the goals of the Mental Health and Psychosocial Support and Protection project.
