Ouagadougou: The Association cin©ma vision-Burkina Faso (ACV-BF) is organizing a writing residency, which will take place from Friday, May 16 to Monday, May 19, at the Institut sup©rieur de l’image et du son/Studio-€š¬…¡¬‚¬¦¡¬°cole (ISIS/SE), to equip young learners with the development of their cinematographic projects. This training aims to support young filmmakers from the development to the maturation of their projects.
According to Burkina Information Agency, Orokia Barro, director and member of the association, stated that residents will be trained for four days on various aspects such as the introduction to the screenplay, narrative processes, dramatic tools, sequencers, dialogue continuity, preproduction, script analysis, and training in video editing. She emphasized that the training combines theoretical tips with practical discussions, using examples of short films to help participants effectively write their scripts.
“Of the five residents, we will retain the best script, which will be produced entirely with the technical support of ISIS/SE,” Barro explained.
Kassoum Coulibaly, president of the Association, pointed out that the development of film projects is often overlooked. He stressed the importance of thinking about, working on, and refining a project for its complete maturation. “This is why we want to work as hard as possible to advance Burkinabe cinema and contribute to the construction of this great common cinematic structure,” he said.
Dr. Bangbi Fr©d©ric Kabor©, Director General of ISIS/SE, expressed that such activities should occur more frequently, as ideas can be more powerful than means. “When ideas are supported by a firm desire to achieve goals, projects end up succeeding, and a writing residency is just what Burkina has been lacking for some time,” he stated.
Resident Sergine Souwerma endorsed this initiative, noting the importance of continuous learning, especially in cinema where many enter without full knowledge of the industry’s intricacies. “These kinds of initiatives allow film enthusiasts to strengthen their skills in order to offer cinema something exceptional and much more structured,” she commented.
