Mouhoun: The Volunteers for the Defense of the Homeland (VDP) united with the population of the village of Ouakara, in the commune of Bondokuy, organized on Sunday, January 12, 2025, a march meeting on the occasion of the first anniversary of the resettlement of the village. This event aimed to show gratitude to the authorities of the Transition under the leadership of the Head of State Captain Ibrahim Traor©.
According to Burkina Information Agency, on May 28, 2023, the village of Ouakara was subjected to a deadly attack, resulting in the massive displacement of its population. Reconquest actions by the country’s highest authorities led to the resettlement of the village, including the VDP, on January 13, 2024.
To commemorate the anniversary of their resettlement, the VDP and the people of Ouakara expressed their gratitude to the fighting forces led by Captain Ibrahim Traor©, for restoring peace and enabling their return home. The event on January 12, 2025, saw villagers and VDP gather in the village’s youth place, singing the victory anthem Ditany©, and marching through the streets with flags of AES countries and strategic partner Russia, culminating at the VDP headquarters.
The demonstration was well-received by locals, with many returning from various parts of the country to show solidarity. Sylvain Bicaba, President of the special delegation (PDS) of a locality in the Sahel, lauded the initiative and urged young people to engage in social cohesion and community initiatives.
Bicaba reiterated the community’s unwavering support for the villagers and praised the authorities’ efforts in maintaining peace. He emphasized the importance of resilience and collaboration in achieving social harmony.
Seydou Janvier Zongo, representing the VDP, acknowledged the efforts of those who facilitated the village’s resettlement and stressed the importance of collaboration between the VDP and fighting forces. He called for continued commitment to defending the homeland.
Traditional and religious leaders attended the ceremony, offering blessings for peace and victory over terrorism. Sergeant Zangr©, representing the Bondokuy military detachment, commended the VDP’s courage and determination, urging them to maintain their achievements and morale.
The day’s events included a VDP demonstration parade and a football match to foster cohesion and collaboration within the community. The country’s motto was also explained and translated into Bwamu, reinforcing its significance for homeland defense.
