Ouagadougou: In Yagha province the Solhan A public primary school stands out for the establishment of a school garden, an initiative which contributes significantly to the improvement of the students' canteen and the promotion of local consumption, in accordance with the guidelines of the highest authorities in the country.
According to Burkina Information Agency, the school garden at Solhan A School is now a tangible reality and a source of satisfaction for both the school administration and the students. Under the leadership of the headmaster, Amadou Tamboura, and with the support of his deputies and the school council, the school has developed an agricultural area that meets the expectations of the educational authorities. This initiative is part of the national movement to promote and enhance the value of locally sourced food in school fields and gardens.
The school director stated that the project took shape during the establishment of the parents' office, also known as the School Council, on November 12, 2025. "On this occasion, we relayed the message from the top officials on the importance of the locally sourced canteen. Immediately, commitments were made," explained Mr. Tamboura. The parents offered land for the garden and field, mobilized resources for the purchase of seeds, and built a fence to secure the site.
Today, students and supervisors actively participate in the garden work and consume the produce they have grown themselves. A shared source of pride, despite the difficulties linked to the lack of agricultural equipment. The educational team is therefore appealing to the relevant authorities and people of goodwill to support this initiative, which contributes not only to feeding the students, but also to their education in autonomy and productive work.
