The Kingdom of Morocco obtains “Sectoral Dialogue Partner Status” from the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (MAEC)

The Foreign Ministers of the countries of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), meeting on September 4 in Jakarta, formalized the granting to the Kingdom of Morocco of the “Sectoral Dialogue Partner Status” of this grouping, indicates a press release from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation and Moroccans Residing Abroad.

With this decision, the press release specifies, Morocco becomes the first country in North Africa to obtain this status, thus consolidating its position as a privileged interlocutor of this geopolitical and economic grouping of great importance.

The confirmation of the status of “Sectoral Dialogue Partner” in Morocco consecrates the Vision of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, may God assist Him, concerning the diversification of partnerships and its opening to new geopolitical spaces, underlines the press release, adding that it also constitutes a recognition by this grouping of the role of Morocco, under the leadership of the Sovereign, as a pole of stability in Africa and the Arab world and reflects, finally, the dynamic of partnerships between Morocco and the countries of the ‘South East Asia.

The agreement in principle for granting the status of “Sectoral Dialogue Partner” to Morocco was announced during the 56th Meeting of ASEAN Foreign Ministers, held on July 11 and 12, 2023 in Jakarta, concludes the communicated.

Furthermore, it should be remembered that during the same meeting, the same status was granted to South Africa and the United Arab Emirates.
