The Ambassador of the Republic of Türkiye in Burkina Faso Nilgün Erdem Ari hailed this Thursday in Ouagadougou, the failure of the coup attempt of July 15, 2016 in his country and this thanks to the “noble resistance” of the people of Türkiye and the “leadership” of President Recep Tayyip Erdogan.

“The July 15, 2016 coup attempt was aborted thanks to the noble resistance of our people and the leadership of our President Recep Tayyip Erdogan. Our people won with their unprecedented courage the victory of democracy against the terrorist organization FETÖ”, said this Thursday, the Ambassador of the Republic of Türkiye in Burkina Faso Nilgün Erdem Ari.

Mrs. Erdem Ari was speaking in Ouagadougou, on the occasion of the Day of Democracy and National Unity of Türkiye under the theme “Heroes of the Centenary of Türkiye”.

She paid “a strong tribute” to her compatriots who “have passed away in the fight led by the Republic of Turkey against the terrorist organization of Fetullah Gülen (FETÖ) (which attempted the putsch of 2016)”.

“The armed attacks against our people on July 15, 2016 will never be forgotten. It was a real conspiracy against the national unity and solidarity of our country, already seven years ago,” she said.

This anniversary coincides this year with the centenary of the proclamation of the Republic of Türkiye on October 29, 1923, headed by Mustafa Kemal Pasha (Atatürk), the first President of the Republic.

Also, the theme “Heroes of the Centenary of Türkiye” of the Day of Democracy and National Unity of Türkiye aims to “affirm the union and unity, strength, vision and potential” of the republic of Türkiye and its People, underlined Ambassador Nilgün Erdem Ari.

“It is thanks to the sacrifices and dedications in the legitimate struggle of its heroes since 1923 until today that Türkiye was able to establish its goals and laid the foundations of the Centenary of Türkiye”, she noted.

To consolidate the hard-won democracy, the Turkish state intends “with firm determination” to continue “its fight against FETÖ both inside Türkiye and abroad”, she argued.

“Our main objective is to demonstrate and prove the fact that FETÖ poses a threat to the security of all countries where it remains present. We are in close collaboration with our Burkinabè friends and continue to share all information on FETÖ in order to show the truths concerning its hidden activities,” she said.

Mrs. Erdem Ari reassured that “the Maarif Foundation of Türkiye, which took over the schools of FETÖ (schools run before the coup attempt by the terrorist organization of Fetullah Gülen) continues to write success stories with its graduates, also in African countries”.

“I am convinced that the same story of success will also be written here and that the graduates of the Maarif Foundation schools will contribute to the future of Burkina Faso”, she wished.

The Ambassador of the Republic of Türkiye to Burkina Faso hailed the people of Burkina Faso who bravely struggle with the love of their homeland, in the face of humanitarian and security challenges, for the strengthening of their national unity.

She thanked the Burkinabe people for their support in the process of dismantling the terrorist/gulenist network (the terrorist organization of Fetullah Gülen) on Burkinabe soil.

The commemoration began with a minute of silence followed by a prayer in memory of those who sacrificed their lives during the July 15 coup attempt, as well as in memory of those who fell on the battlefield to defend their homeland in Türkiye and Burkina Faso. The national anthem of Burkina Faso and that of Türkiye were also sung by the Burkinabè and Turkish guests.
