The Iranian government considers the development and deepening of relations with African countries as an important foreign policy priority: minister

In an official statement received by the AIB this Thursday evening, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Republic of Iran Hossein Amir-Abdollahian affirms that his government “considers the development and deepening relations with African countries as an important foreign policy priority”.

The Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Republic of Iran Hossein Amir-Abdollahian affirms in an official statement received this Thursday evening at the AIB, that “Africa benefits from untapped potential and unparalleled opportunities in the sectors political, economic and cultural.

He continued that “this potential is so enormous that Africa is described in global political literature as the ‘land of opportunity’ due to its high economic potential and immense natural and talented human resources”.

“Aware of such importance, the current government of the Islamic Republic of Iran regards the development and deepening of all-round relations with African countries as an important foreign policy priority,” he said.

Given such a policy, Hossein Amir-Abdollahian informs that his ministerial department “has seriously and strongly placed on its agenda the continuation of the strengthening of relations in various economic, commercial, political and international fields with Africa, in accordance to mutual interests”.

According to the head of Iranian diplomacy, his country’s government “is trying to focus on the joint economic capabilities that exist between Iran and Africa and use them to further cement commercial ties in addition to political ties”.

“In this regard, in 2022 alone, four joint economic commissions were held with African countries, 83 political, trade and cultural delegations were exchanged, and nearly 50 cooperation memoranda and agreements were signed by the two parties” , he said.

Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi began an African tour which took him to Kenya and Uganda on Wednesday July 12, to Zimbabwe on Thursday July 13, 2023, a first for 11 years.

This visit, according to the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Republic of Iran Hossein Amir-Abdollahian, “is naturally aimed at establishing closer interaction with African countries and making various aspects of mutual relations more operational”.

“If this happens successfully, which I am certain of, Iran’s contribution and participation in Africa’s growing economy will grow exponentially,” he pledged.

“The current strategy of the Islamic Republic of Iran with regard to Africa is based on the deepening of economic relations on the basis of South-South cooperation”, faith of the minister who notes that “last year, a multiple increase has been recorded in Iran’s commercial transactions with Africa”.

The head of Iranian diplomacy says he hopes Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi’s African tour “opens the doors to more benefits and the expansion of cooperation between Iran and Africa, especially in trade and economy. President Raisi’s next destination in Africa will be South Africa”.
