The Commune of Bourzanga Celebrates National Customs Day with Fervor and Unity

Bam: The guarantors of the customs and traditions of Bourzanga celebrated, yesterday Thursday, the National Day of Customs and Traditions under the banner of unity, peace and recognition of ancestors. The ceremony began with a symbolic ritual involving the slaughter of chickens, intended to invoke peace from the ancestors. It continued with the customary greetings to Tin Naaba Baongo, a traditional figurehead of Bourzanga.



According to Burkina Information Agency, the event saw a strong turnout of the population, particularly traditional chiefs from the 53 villages of the commune of Bourzanga. In his speech, the spokesperson for Tin Naaba Baongo expressed his gratitude to the President of Faso, Captain Ibrahim Traore, for having established this day. “There have been presidents before, but none of them had thought of establishing a National Customs Day. We thank President Ibrahim Traore for this recognition of our traditions,” he stressed.



Tin Naaba also encouraged people to support the country’s authorities. He praised the efforts of the Defense and Security Forces, before expressing his wishes for a successful agricultural season and a swift return to peace. The day’s festivities continued with cultural performances by the Boena troupe, the Bourzanga women’s dance troupe, as well as primary school students.



Representatives of the President of the Special Delegation (PDS), the head of the military detachment, and health and education officials also spoke to welcome this commemoration initiative. The ceremony ended in a fraternal atmosphere, strengthening the bonds between the vital forces of Bourzanga.



As a reminder, Customs and Traditions Day was established on March 6, 2024, by decree adopted by the Council of Ministers. It is celebrated every year on May 15.
