Ouagadougou: The Bougouriba 5 Local Water Committee (CLE) was established on Friday, March 21, 2025, in Hound©, following its founding general assembly. It covers 32 villages spread across four communes in Tuy province and two communes in Ioba province.
According to Burkina Information Agency, the CLE Bougouriba 5 is composed of an executive committee and two specialized committees: one dedicated to managing water-related conflicts and the other to programming, organizing, and monitoring activities. The founding general assembly and the establishment of the committee’s bodies took place in the presence of the main stakeholders in the area concerned.
Toussaint Kima, director of partnerships at the Mouhoun Water Agency (AEM), indicated that this committee is the 19th of its kind within the AEM’s area of expertise. According to him, the CLEs allow for consultation among local stakeholders on issues related to water resources. He emphasized that several environmental problems motivated its creation, including recurring floods, water and soil pollution due to gold mining activities, and the uncontrolled use of certain insecticides.
For a virtuous governance of water resources, Mr. Kima specified that the bodies of CLE Bougouriba 5 are composed of members from the local administration, decentralized services of the State, local authorities, and water users, ensuring a geographical balance within the executive office and specialized commissions.
For his part, the director of the Mouhoun Water Agency, Omar Kodo Tall, congratulated the elected members and called on them to take action. “They are expected to be on the ground, as many challenges remain to be addressed in protecting water resources. We expect them to provide a detailed program of activities with concrete actions,” he said.
The High Commissioner of Ioba Province, Innocent Ouattara, who chaired the meeting in the absence of his counterpart from Tuy, expressed satisfaction with the installation of the CLE Bougouriba 5, while urging the members of the new office to get to work.
