Terrorist Attack Simulation Scheduled in Ouagadougou to Enhance Emergency Preparedness

OUAGADOUGOU — The Ministry of Security has announced a planned terrorist attack simulation exercise set for Saturday, August 10, 2024, in Ouagadougou, urging residents not to panic but to be aware of the exercise designed to enhance emergency response strategies. The simulation, which will include staged explosions and gunfire, will occur from 6 a.m. to 12 p.m. and will affect traffic and daily activities in the vicinity, particularly in the Roumtenga area and main routes into and out of the city.

According to Burkina Information Agency, under the direction of Minister Mahamadou Sana, the exercise is intended to test and improve the city’s readiness and response to potential terrorist threats. The simulation will mimic real attack scenarios, complete with the sound of gunfire and explosions, to provide as realistic a training environment as possible for security forces and emergency services. “The Minister invites people not to panic and to go about their business freely,” the ministry stated, emphasizing the importance of maintaining normalcy during the drill.

Residents, especially those in the directly affected areas, are advised to be prepared for temporary disruptions in road traffic and to accommodate the training exercise, which is crucial for testing the city’s emergency protocols and improving safety measures against possible future attacks.

The Minister expressed gratitude in advance for the cooperation and civic commitment expected from everyone to ensure the exercise is conducted smoothly and effectively.
