Tenkodogo: The Health District Adopts Its 2026-2030 Health Development Plan

Tenkodogo: Health system stakeholders in the Tenkodogo health district, meeting in an expanded session of the District Health Council, validated and adopted the District Health Development Plan (PDSD) 2026-2030 on Tuesday. Chaired by the High Commissioner of Boulgou, Domegbeguiere Constantin Dabire, the meeting represents an important step in local health planning, with technical and financial support from the Belgian Development Agency (Enabel).

According to Burkina Information Agency, the High Commissioner of Boulgou, Domegbeguiere Constantin Dabire, opened the proceedings by commending the mobilization of the members of the District Health Council (CSD), technical and financial partners, and community leaders. He reiterated that the CSD is a health governance body responsible for guiding, monitoring, and validating strategic interventions.

The development and validation of the PDSD 2026-2030 are taking place in a context marked by several challenges: persistent endemic diseases, the effects of climate change, and the need for qualified personnel, infrastructure, and equipment. "Despite the challenges, the district is making progress thanks to the commitment of healthcare staff and the support of partners," he stated.

The District Medical Officer (DMO) presented draft 2 of the strategic document, explaining that it resulted from a participatory process involving all stakeholders. These discussions allowed for the collection of observations and proposals that will be incorporated into the final version.

The workshop brought together sixty-one participants, including representatives from the administration, decentralized technical services, religious denominations, customary leadership, civil society organizations, public and private health training, as well as partners such as Enabel, ACF, Plan International, Jhpiego, Concern and the Red Cross.

The work involved technical presentations and discussions aimed at ensuring the plan's relevance and feasibility. Participants emphasized the importance of a realistic strategic document that aligns with the district's needs.

Enabel, the main partner, provided financial support for the workshop according to its procedures, including per diems, transport costs and logistical arrangements.

Following the discussions, the District Health Council adopted the 2026-2030 Health Development Plan, subject to the incorporation of the latest amendments. The High Commissioner commended the stakeholders for their commitment and encouraged them to take ownership of the document, using it as a guiding tool to improve healthcare delivery and strengthen the resilience of the health system in Tenkodogo.
