Boulgou: Tenkodogo hosts the launch of the 2026 season of USSU-BF, dedicated to the unity of educational and sporting stakeholders. The 2025-2026 season of the Burkina Faso School and University Sports Union (USSU-BF) was officially launched Thursday evening in Tenkodogo, amidst a general mobilization around youth. Administrative, educational, and sports authorities called for strengthened collaboration between the three levels of education to build a more structured, inclusive, and high-performing school sports system.
According to Burkina Information Agency, the Director General of Sports, Ms. Badolo/Tapsoba Valerie, recalled that this launch marks "the start of sports competitions at the school level" for the 2025-2026 year. She indicated that several disciplines are involved in this sports season, including football, basketball, judo, and athletics.
The choice of a popular cross-country race to kick off the activities aims to "bring students together around general physical preparation" as the school year is just beginning. Thousands of students from various schools took part in the morning event, which symbolizes the young people's commitment to an active sports season.
The Director General of Sports also emphasized the importance of this year's theme: "Actors from the three levels of education and sport: let's build together a strong and sustainable school and university sport for a resilient Burkina Faso." She stressed the need for synergy between teachers, coaches, and school leaders in order to "support sport to guarantee the educational and sporting success of young people."
For Saidou Ouedraogo, High Commissioner of the Koulpelogo province, representing the governor of the Nakambe region, this national launch is a powerful symbol of the country's commitment to youth and sport. He emphasized that school sport "is not just a physical activity, but a true vehicle for education, social cohesion, and talent identification."
In his address, he invited all stakeholders, including students, teachers, school administrators, local authorities, and technical and financial partners, to fully play their part in ensuring the success of this season. He also commended the efforts already made by the teaching staff and sports coaches, stating that their commitment "contributes each year to making USSU-BF a breeding ground for talent and a place for the development of thousands of young people."
To pupils and students, the High Commissioner made a passionate appeal: "Make the USSU-BF competitions allies for your academic success and personal development. Sport is a school of discipline, self-improvement, solidarity and patriotism."
