OSHIVELO: Three men have been arrested in connection with the alleged gang rape and murder of a 16-year-old girl at a farm near the Oshivelo settlement in the Oshikoto Region. The suspects, aged 22, 26, and 28, were taken into custody following the discovery of the victim’s body on Tuesday.
According to Namibia Press Agency, Deputy Commissioner Titus Ekandjo of the Namibian Police Force revealed that the girl’s body was found naked and buried in a shallow grave, covered with sand and dry branches. During investigations, the suspects reportedly confessed to the crime, stating they gang raped the victim, killed her, and then attempted to conceal the crime by burying her body.
Witnesses reported seeing the victim with the three men around 2 p.m. on Tuesday near a supermarket in Oshivelo. Concerned family members reported her missing when she failed to return home, prompting a police investigation. Authorities traced the suspects, leading to the discovery of the girl’s body.
Deputy Commissioner Ekandjo noted t
hat before their arrest, two of the suspects had fled to a farm located 40 kilometers from Oshivelo. The deceased’s body has been transported to the Omuthiya police mortuary for a post-mortem examination to determine the exact cause of death.
The victim’s family has been notified, and investigations into the case are ongoing.
