Teen Allegedly Kills Man Over Cigarette Lighter in Kalkrand

Kalkrand: An 18-year-old allegedly stabbed and killed a 29-year-old man on Friday during an argument at a house in Kalkrand in the Hardap Region.

According to Namibia Press Agency, the Namibian Police Force (NamPol) Head of Crime Investigations in the region, Deputy Commissioner Johannes Mwatongwe, reported that the incident began when the victim visited the suspect's house and lit a cigarette using the fire. An argument erupted when the victim began searching for his lighter, and the suspect insisted that the victim had not brought a lighter with him.

The altercation between the two escalated, leading to the suspect allegedly stabbing the victim, Donovan Desmond Naeseb, once in the neck with an Okapi knife. Naeseb succumbed to his injury at the scene. His next of kin have been informed, and his body was transported to the Mariental State Hospital mortuary for a post-mortem examination to confirm the cause of death.

The suspect has been taken into custody and is expected to appear in the Mariental Magistrate's Court on charges of murder. Police investigations into the incident are ongoing.
