Ouagadougou: Members of the Teel Yaoba association for the development of Burkina Faso, along with traders, undertook a cleanup operation at the Arbre Yaar market in Tanghin on Saturday, reflecting a spirit of citizen participation.
According to Burkina Information Agency, the association’s president, Drissa Gansor©, stated that this sanitation effort aligns with the authorities’ call for the Days of Patriotic Commitment and Civic Participation. The operation was organized on May 3, 2025, focusing on cleaning the market and removing accumulated rubbish.
The president highlighted that the cleanup attracted a significant turnout, indicating the traders’ interest in maintaining a healthy environment, especially with the first rains approaching. Mamoudou Yaogo, head of Arbre Yaar market, emphasized the importance of waste management, noting the challenges faced due to insufficient resources for waste removal.
Mr. Yaogo called for support from the Department of Environmental Protection and the Ouagadougou District 4 town hall to ensure consistent waste removal. Karim Sangar©, Acting Director General of Environmental Preservation, encouraged traders to adopt daily sanitation practices, stressing the importance of maintaining a clean environment as a patriotic duty.
Management agents at the event also promoted the use of biodegradable packaging as an alternative to plastic bags. The Teel Yaoba association prioritizes sanitation in Ouagadougou, with President Gansor© seeking volunteer support through work equipment donations to continue their efforts.
He noted that this was the association’s third sanitation activity for 2025, despite limited resources.
